Beautiful song: Jane kya tune kahi!

Kagaz ke Phool

"Kaagaz Ke Phool" (Hindi: कागज़ के फूल; English: Paper Flowers), is a 1959 classic Hindi film produced and directed by Guru Dutt, who also played the lead role in the film. The film was a box office disaster of its time but was later resurrected as a world cinema cult classic in the 1980s. The film's music was composed by S. D. Burman and the notable lyrics were written by Kaifi Azmi, giving hits like Waqt ne Kiya Kya Haseen Situm, sung by Geeta Dutt. In the 2002 Sight & Sound critics' and directors' poll, Kaagaz Ke Phool was ranked at #160 among the greatest films of all time. Motivated by the success of Pyaasa, Guru Dutt embarked on the creation of yet another of his socially challenging movie, Kaagaz Ke Phool. The theme and tone on this movie were ages ahead of the Indian audience of the 50s who were used to simpler plots and storylines. The underlying tones of the film were complex and story was controversial for the time. Considered one of Guru Dutt's finest film by many, Kaagaz Ke Phool was a commercial disaster when it was first released. At the film's premiere, Dr Rajendra Prasad, then President of India and invited chief guest, walked out of the cinema hall deeply offended. Audiences in Delhi's Regal cinema threw stones at the screen during the screening. Reactions like these deeply affected the sensitive and introverted Dutt. Guru Dutt himself admitted in an interview to Filmfare in 1963, " It was good in patches. It was too slow and it went over the head of audiences." Even though Guru Dutt produced and acted in two commercially successful and critically acclaimed hits after this, namely Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960) and Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962), he never undertook the role of director again. There is some speculation that Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam was ghost directed by him, although it lists Abrar Alvi as the director, for which he won the year's Filmfare 'Best Director' award. Ironically, today Kaagaz ke Phool enjoys a cult following, and became a commercial hit at its 1984 re-release in France and Japan. Critically acclaimed even at time of its release, it is often listed in top ten Hindi movies of all time listings today. The film is regarded by many as India's equivalent of "Sunset Boulevard". Guru Dutt's influence in Indian cinema continues to date. The cinematographer of Kaagaz Ke Phool was the legendary V.K. Murthy and it has the distinction of being the first Indian film made in wide 75 mm CinemaScope. He created the sun breaking through studio roof shot in the movie with use of a pair of ordinary mirrors and sambarani to get a parallel beam, as seen in the song, Waqt Ne Kiya. This scene won him the Filmfare Best Cinematographer Award for 1959. The film also won critical acclaim in direction, lyrics and poetic songs. S.D. Burman and Kaifi Azmi poured their heart and soul in the music and lyrics of this film respectively. Many claim that the film is semi-autobiographical of Guru Dutt and that he portrayed his angst in the movie. At the time of production of the film, Guru Dutt's marriage to Geeta Dutt was under strain due to his liking for Waheeda Rehman. This was openly known causing Guru Dutt's personal life to resemble that of the protagonist in the movie. However, the forecast of his own (Guru Dutt's) death, to parallel the sad and imminent death of the protagonist in the film, is debatable. Another explanation for the inspiration is Guru Dutt's association with Gyan Mukherjee, the famous 1940s director whose Qismet (1941) had made him into a household name. The life and subsequent failures of Mukherjee, whom Guru Dutt had joined in 1950, influenced him deeply. Many think that Kaghaz ke Phool was based on Gyan Mukherjee's life and failures, as Guru Dutt's previous film Pyaasa had been dedicated to him. Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam 'वक्त ने किया क्या हसीं सितम' - Geeta Dutt The most popular song of the film is the deeply emotional "Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Situm; Tum Rahein Na Tum, Hum Rahein Na Hum"[8] . Soulfully tuned by the S. D. Burman, this song was brought to fruition by the pain-lashed voice of Geeta Dutt to make it the perfect theme song for a lost season of grace. Many singers, including Lata Mangeshkar, have tried unsuccessfully to re-create the same magic as Geeta Dutt. Awards * Filmfare Best Cinematographer Award - V.K. Murthy * Filmfare Best Art Direction Award - M.R. Acharekar. Geetā Dutt (Born Geetā Ghosh Roy Chowdhuri) [November 23, 1930 July 20, 1972] was a prominent Indian playback singer in Hindi movies in the 1950s and 60s, and also a singer of modern Bengali songs......... "Jai Mahakali, Ayo Gorkhali"

"Jai Mahakali, Ayo Gorkhali" ("Glory be to the Goddess of War, here come the Gorkhas!")
~battle cry of the Gurkha warrior

friendly looking chaps…when they aren’t causing carnage on a massive scale to their enemies..

What do you get when you put one Ghurka soldier armed with a khukri on a crowded train with 40 bandits intent on raping an 18 year old girl?

Pure brass cajones badassery...thats what
Check this out……

Lone Nepali Gorkha who subdued 40 train robbers
Gorkha soldiers have long been known the world over for their valor and these khukuri-wielding warriors winning the British many a battle have become folklore.

A retired Indian Gorkha soldier recently revisited those glory days when he thwarted 40 robbers, killing three of them and injuring eight others, with his khukuri during a train journey. He is in line to receive three gallantry awards from the Indian government.

Slave girl Morgiana in the Arabian Nights used her cunning to finish off Ali Baba´s 40 thieves, but Bishnu Shrestha of Baidam, Pokhara-6 did not have time to plot against the 40 train robbers. He, however, made good use of his khukuri to save the chastity of a girl and hundreds of thousands in loot.
Shrestha, who was in the Maurya Express to Gorakhpur from Ranchi on September 2 while returning home following voluntary retirement from the Indian army--saved the girl who was going to be raped by the robbers in front of her halpless parents, and in doing so won plaudits from everybody.
The Indian government is to decorate Shrestha with its Sourya Chakra, Bravery Award and Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Medal and the 35-year-old is leaving for India Saturday to receive the first of the awards on the occasion of India´s Republic Day on January 26.
“The formal announcement of the awards will be made on Republic Day and on Independence Day on August 15,” said Shrestha, whose father Gopal Babu also retired from the same 7/8 Platoon of the Gorkha Regiment around 29 years ago.
His regiment has already given him a cash award of Indian rupees 50,000, and decided to terminate his voluntary retirement. He will get the customary promotion after receiving the medals. The Indian government will also announce a cash bounty for him and special discounts on international air tickets and domestic train tickets.
The band of about 40 robbers, some of whom were travelling as passengers, stopped the train in the Chittaranjan jungles in West Bengal around midnight. Shrestha-- who had boarded the train at Ranchi in Jharkhand, the place of his posting--was in seat no. 47 in coach AC3.
“They started snatching jewelry, cell phones, cash, laptops and other belongings from the passengers,” Shrestha recalled. The soldier had somehow remained a silent spectator amidst the melee, but not for long. He had had enough when the robbers stripped an 18-year-old girl sitting next to him and tried to rape her right in front of her parents. He then took out his khukuri and took on the robbers.
“The girl cried for help, saying ´You are a soldier, please save a sister´,” Shrestha recalled. “I prevented her from being raped, thinking of her as my own sister,” he added. He took one of the robbers under control and then started to attack the others. He said the rest of the robbers fled after he killed three of them with his khukuri and injured eight others.
During the scuffle he received serious blade injury to his left hand while the girl also had a minor cut on her neck. “They had carried out their robbery with swords, blades and pistols. The pistols may have been fake as they didn´t open fire,” he surmised.
The train resumed its journey after some 20 minutes and a horde of media persons and police were present when it reached Chittaranja station. Police arrested the eight injured dacoits and recovered around 400,000 Indian rupees in cash, 40 gold necklaces, 200 cell phones, 40 laptops and other items that the fleeing robbers dropped in the train.
Police escorted Shrestha to the Railways Hospital after the rescued girl told them about his heroic deed. Mainstream Indian media carried the story. The parents of the girl, who was going for her MBBS studies, also announced a cash award of Indian rupees 300,000 for him but he has not met them since.
“Even the veins and arteries in my left hand were slit but the injury has now healed after two months of neurological treatment at the Command Hospital in Kolkata,” he said showing the scar. “Fighting the enemy in battle is my duty as a soldier; taking on the dacoits in the train was my duty as a human being,” said the Indian army nayak, who has been given two guards during his month-long holidays in Nepal.
“I am proud to be able to prove that a Gorkha soldier with a khukuri is really a handful. I would have been a meek spectator had I not carried that khukuri,” he said.
He still finds it hard to believe that he took on 40 armed robbers alone. “They may have feared that more of my army friends were traveling with me and fled after fighting me for around 20 minutes,” he explained.

I Just can't let you Go!

This lie's become a part of me
For months, I've played this game
Acting like it doesn't hurt
Each time I hear her name,

.........Ignoring what's inside of me
Pretending I've moved on
As if the feelings I once had
For her are somehow gone,

Spending each and every day
With happiness and laughs
Forgetting all our memories
Avoiding photographs,

But last night when I saw her
For the first time since she left
My heart stopped for a moment
I couldn't catch my breath,

When suddenly it hit me
As the tears started to flow
That even after all this time
I just can't let her go!!!

Madhosh dil ki Dhadhkan.

Vande Matram!

! वन्दे मातरम !

Major Vishal Thapa - The Philosophical Soldier.

The Pak Army launched an aggressive counter attack on Sando Top and Zulu Top -- the peaks in Drass sector recovered by Indian troops after a fierce fight on Sunday.

The Indian Army lost seven soldiers and 51, including a young Captain, were injured in the 13-hour-long battle. Most received bullet and splinter injuries. Pakistan too is reported to have suffered high casualties though the exact number was not known.

Here too, the heroes of the Tiger Hill victory -- the 16 Grenadiers -- repulsed the determined Pakistani attack. Led by Lt Colonel Nar Bahadur Thapa, the Grenadiers, including Major Kaizad Bhaya, Major Ajit Singh, Captain Vishal Thapa, Captain Vipul Singh Rajput and Captain Uday Burarkar, fought bravely to defend the two peaks.

``These are the two most strategic heights along the Line of Control (LoC) and whoever controls them also controls the entire Drass sector. The Indian Army, occupying it at present, can keep tabs on the movement of the enemy soldiers. Pakistan will have the same advantage if they control these two peaks,'' said a senior officer at Drass Brigade Headquarters

The politicians really thinks about the benefits of their own, think about this....this is not a movie where 2-3 young mans sacrifice their life showing respect to their best friend....but what about the brave unknown soldiers who sacrifice their life without knowing for whom they are sacrificing their life for.

A normal man's (A Civilian) thoughts are limited to choosing a politician for 5 years and so on, so that their responsibility of Voting could be done....who will think beyond it, beyond the level of Responsibility...THE RESPONSIBILITY we have as INDIANS.

Gurkhas are best known for their history in the Indian Army's Gorkha regiments, the British Army's Brigade of Gurkhas and the Nepalese Army.

Former Chief of staff of the Indian Army, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, once famously said about Gurkhas:
“If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or is a Gurkha.”

GLORIOUS INDIAN ARMY.

Trivia of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw

As an officer in British Indian Army at the Burmah Front in WW II, he almost died, and his superior officer awarded him a medal on the battlefront, while he was bleeding.

In 1947, he worked tirelessly to lessen the bloodshed of partition.

In 1962, he almost turned around the morale of Indian soldiers during the last leg of India-China border war.

He openly disagreed with Indira Gandhi and her cabinet about the timing, prepardeness of Indian Army, and the nature of Indian intervention in East Pakistan crisis in 1972, and he did prevail over all of them. At the first unconditional surrender after WW II in 1972, he asked Eastern Sector Commander, Maj. Gen. JS Aurora to be the face of the formal surrender ceremony instead of him. Maj. Gen. Aurora knew some of the Pakistani Generals from pre-partition days, and requested the ceremony be sombre, and with no outward show of humilation.

LOVE.....Has a harsh ending but the journey is Full of Love.

A girl and guy were speeding over 100 mph on a motorcycle

Girl: Slow down. I am scared.
Guy: No this is fun
Girl: No its not.
Please, its to scary!
Guy: Then tell me you love me.
Girl: Fine, I love you. Slow down!
Guy: Now give me a BIG hug.
(Girl hugs him)
Guy: Can u take my helmet off and put it on? Its bugging me.

In the paper the next day: A motorcycle had crashed into a building because of break failure. Two people were on the motorcycle, but only one survived.

The truth was that halfway down the road, the guy realized that his breaks broke,
but he didn't want to let the girl know. Instead, he had her say she loved him,
felt her hug one last time, then had her wear his helmet
so she would live even :'( :'( :'(

Very Touching Must read Poem by Lt Col.Gautam Rajrishi..
in memory of fallen Heroes...

Story of a dog who served Indian Army till death

The Dog's name was Rex.

Rex was a recipient of GOC-in-C Commendation Card for his outstanding & exemplary performance against militants.

The 9A 92 Rex, a golden Labrador was born on 25 February 1993 at RVC Centre & School Meerut. After a year's training, he was posted to 14 Army Dog Unit under Delta Force and assigned the areas adjoining the town of Bhaderwah, to help troops in trailing & tracking militants.

In March 1995, operating with troops of 25 RR in jungles of Badrot, South of Bhaderwah, he tracked a militant injured in an encounter for over 3 km in the thick of militant fire. In a chase that lasted for over four hours, he managed to recover one AK 56 rifles and an haversack containing 92 rounds.

In April 1998, out on a patrol in area Gulgandhar, security forces killed two dreaded militants and badly injured one, who managed to escape. Picking up the scent of his blood, 'Rex' went hot on the trail and moved speedily & stealthily over strenuous undulating mountains. After tracking over 2 km, he succeeded in tracing out the body of the militant in a hideout where he had succumbed to his injuries. Let out on yet another 'trial' with the QRT of CO 25 RR in Daraba near Rajouri, Rex suffered an unfortunate fall and sustained serious intestinal injuries.

He was evacuated to the nearest Army Veterinary Hospital where he developed acute gastroentrities and finally succumbed on 22 September 1999.

The British Army's Gurkhas are, without doubt, the bravest and most fearsome soldiers on the planet.

This has been proved again with one Gurkha fighting off a dozen Taliban in Afghanistan with a Rambo-style hail of fire.

Sergeant Dipprasad Pun hoisted a giant machine gun - weighing 30lb - off its mount and held it as he blazed away at them, killing three and wounding several others.

A source said: "It would have taken a superhuman effort to hold the gun and fire it. Apart from its weight, the recoil is colossal."

The Gurkhas, Britain's greatest allies, are Nepalese and have been fighting in the British Army since 1817. They are famous for their traditional Nepalese kukri knives, lethal weapons with curved blades that every Gurkha in the British Army is issued with and trained in their use. They are used as close combat weapons. According to legend, a Gurkha "never sheathes his blade without first drawing blood."

Over the years they have won 26 Victoria Crosses.

There are currently around 4,000 of them serving in the British Army.

Rambo-style Gurkha in solo Taliban blitz

Heroic ... Sgt Dipprasad Pun beat off attackers

A LONE Gurkha has fought off the Taliban in a Rambo-style hail of fire.

Heroic Sergeant Dipprasad Pun HOISTED a giant machine gun off its mount and HELD it as he blazed away at a dozen attackers.

Firepower ... Sgt Dip held 30lb gun and let fly 750 rounds a minute

He is believed to have killed three and wounded several others with the gun - weighing well over 30lb and hammering out 750 rounds a minute.

A source said: "It would have taken a superhuman effort to hold the gun and fire it. Apart from its weight, the recoil is colossal."

Firefight ... he held off a dozen Taliban from rooftop, killing at least 3

The 15-minute stand came after Sgt Dip, 31, was left at a checkpoint in Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand.

Spotting a Taliban attack, he ran on to a roof to man a 7.62mm general purpose machine gun mounted on a tripod.

As the insurgents came over the wall Sgt Dip realised he could not lower the gun enough to hit them. So he yanked out the pins locking it down - CHUCKING the heavy tripod at the enemy - and lifted it up.

There are around 4,000 Gurkhas in the British Army in six units. There are the the Royal Gurkha Rifles (two battalions), The Queen's Gurkha Engineers, Queen's Gurkha Signals, and The Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment. In addition there are two independent companies - Gurkha Company (Sittang) at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and Gurkha Company (Mandalay) at the Infantry Battle School, Brecon. Together these make up the Brigade of Gurkhas.

He also beat off the attackers with grenades and an SA80 rifle before reinforcements arrived.

Sgt Dip, of 1st Battalion the Royal Gurkha Rifles, would not speak about the September 17 battle. And it is too early to speculate if he will win a medal as citations have not been written. But Army spokesman Lt Col David Eastman said: "He is a credit to his unit."

Heroes' proud medal history

THE Gurkhas have a distinguished history of Victoria Cross winners.

Rifleman Lachhiman Gurung took on 200 Japanese troops while manning a forward post in Burma (then a part of the British Empire) in May 1945.

Honour ... Gurkhas have won 26 Victoria Crosses

During the battle, which left him blinded, he threw two grenades back at the enemy - but a third detonated, blowing off his arm.

Lachhiman, now 92, continued to fire his rifle with his good arm for four hours, killing at least 30 Japs. He retired on disability grounds in 1946 and is wheelchair-bound in Hounslow, West London.

Rifleman Tul Bahadur Pun, 21, led a lone charge against a Japanese machine gun nest after his comrades were slaughtered in Burma in June 1944.

He killed three enemy soldiers and chased off five others.

Now 87, he then used two captured machine guns and ammunition to provide cover for his platoon following behind.

I'm at a loss as to why the u.s. Marines was even brought up. No one had besmirched the marines in this O.P.

Doing a little trolling again Jackie?

gerryh, I will type this real slow, so that you can understand it.

My response was to damngrumpy, who praised the Gurkha fighters. My point was that given the right circumstances all fighters can be great, and as an example I mentioned the United States Marines. When damngrumpy used the term "all over the world", I thought that the Marines could and should not be ignored. I meant no disrespect for the Gurkhas.

And for all those who are not deficient in reading comprehension, (obviously you being an exception) I made it clear that it was SARCASM.

Get real, troll!
